Book Promotion The Outlaw Adam Neamțu at the Vršac City Museum

The Vršac City Museum hosted a remarkable cultural event — the promotion of the book “The Outlaw Adam Neamțu”, written by Damian Izverniceanu. This event was part of the “Historical Chronicles” project and was organized in collaboration with the Romanian Center for Cultural Research and Promotion and the “Caraș” Cultural Center from Grădinari, Romania.

The promotion gathered an impressive audience and was coordinated by Dr. Traian Căcina, head of the local cultural council. Attendees had the opportunity to hear speeches from prominent figures such as Codruț Anca, Lorin Cimpoieriu, and Marian Mohan. The musical program featured the talented David Butan from Coștei, while Todor Groza from Mesić delighted the public with his recitations. The warm and welcoming atmosphere was further enriched by the decorations and hospitality provided by the members of the women’s association “Valea Teiului” from Coștei.

Originally written in 1927, the book is a historical novel centered on Adam Duma, known as Neamțu, the last and most famous outlaw of the region. Nicknamed for his distinctive style of dress, Adam Neamțu became legendary for his acts of social justice— robbing the rich and corrupt to share his spoils with the poor villagers. His adventures took place across what is today the Romanian part of Banat as well as in the Vršac Mountains, where local legends about his hidden treasures continue to spark curiosity.

The event brought together representatives from villages that still preserve the memory of the 19th-century outlaws, as well as officials from the Consulate General of Romania in Vršac, the National Council of the Romanian National Minority, CPE “Libertatea”, and the Association “Independent Romanians of Serbia”, among others.

In order to keep the memory of the outlaw Adam Neamțu alive for future generations, it was announced that the work will be translated into Serbian, enriched with additional research in future editions. Thus, the event not only celebrated the launch of an important literary work but also reaffirmed the importance of preserving and promoting local history and cultural heritage.
