The National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia, as the only legitimate body elected in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Serbia, representing and protecting the interests of the Romanian national minority in Serbia, its culture, language, and ties with the motherland, adopted a unified position today following the press conference held in Belgrade by the Romanian Party and issues the following:
PRESS RELEASE
The National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia completely distances itself from everything that was said during today’s press conference of the Romanian Party held in Belgrade. All statements made at that conference represent solely the political stance of the Romanian Party’s representatives and have absolutely no connection to the work of the National Council or to the position of the Romanian national minority in Serbia.
The National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia strongly condemns the politicization of the tragic event in Bor, which the Romanian Party is using in the most insidious way to involve the Romanian national minority in their political agenda.
The legitimate elections for representatives in the National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia were held in 2022. Within the Council, Romanians from Vojvodina and Belgrade, as well as those from eastern Serbia, are equally represented. Therefore, the Romanian Party has no legitimacy whatsoever to speak on behalf of all Romanians in Serbia.
The National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia expresses its deep gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, as well as to the local administration and citizens of Bor, for their professional approach and dedicated efforts in dealing with one of the most tragic events to affect this region and which has deeply shaken our entire country.
Today, when relations between the Serbian state and national communities are at their highest historical level, the National Council of the Romanian National Minority will continue to work towards preserving this framework, in the best interest of all Romanians living in Serbia.
President of the National Council of the Romanian National Minority in Serbia
Dr. Valentin Ardelean
