Today, at the Palace of Serbia, a session of the Council for National Minorities was held, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Đuro Macut, in the presence of the Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, Demo Berisha, representatives of state institutions, and members of the national councils of national minorities.
Prior to the session, Prime Minister Macut stated that national councils represent the best framework for promoting the activities of all national minorities, while also providing opportunities for educational, cultural, and academic development for members of minority communities living in Serbia.
He expressed hope that the good, productive, and highly constructive cooperation with all national minorities would continue, and extended his gratitude to Minister Demo Berisha for his active engagement in dialogue with the national councils.
Minister Berisha emphasized that today’s session confirmed the ministry’s commitment to further strengthening the rights and position of national minorities through continuous dialogue, cooperation with national councils, and institutional support.
“It is important that the voice of every community is heard and respected. Therefore, we will continue working on policies that contribute to greater social inclusion, preservation of identity, and strengthening mutual trust. Only a society that respects diversity and builds bridges of understanding can be stable, just, and future-oriented,” the minister stated.
During the session, the Proposal for the Program on the Allocation of Funds from the Budget Fund for National Minorities for 2026 was adopted, with a total amount of 30,000,000.00 dinars allocated.
According to the adopted proposal, culture has been designated as the priority area for financing programs and projects dedicated to national minorities this year, reaffirming the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Serbia to continue supporting and developing cultural practices of national minorities in Serbia.
Among other topics, the session also discussed the Report on the work of the Coordination of National Councils of National Minorities, as well as the Report on implemented and planned activities of national minority councils.
