The National Council of the Romanian National Minority firmly responds to the insults made during the appointment of new members to the Board of Directors of C.P.E. “Libertatea”, as well as to the dissemination of certain inaccuracies.
We will not dwell on the insults but will present only the verified facts.
As the founder of C.P.E. “Libertatea”, the National Council of the Romanian National Minority, regulated by the Law on National Minority Councils (Articles 16 and 19) and the Law on Public Information and Media (Article 16, paragraphs 1, 3, 2, and 4), appointed only those Board members proposed by the founder in accordance with Article 6, paragraph 2 of the Decision on the Press and Publishing House “Libertatea”, Article 20, paragraph 1, point 5 of the Statute of the National Council of the Romanian National Minority, and Articles 7(2) and 8(1) of the Statute of C.P.E. “Libertatea” dated 25 May 2012.
Researching the archives of the National Council, we found that in 2015, the former leadership of the National Council appointed members to the Board of Directors of C.P.E. “Libertatea” for a four-year term, through Decision No. 128/15 of 23 June 2015 regarding the dismissal and appointment of Board members.
In accordance with Article 8 of the Decision on C.P.E. “Libertatea” and Article 8 of its Statute, which define the Board’s core competencies, the National Council appointed new members who meet the professional criteria necessary to further enhance the Institution’s activities.
Allegations suggesting that press freedom has been violated are false, because according to Article 10, paragraph 1 of the founding Decision of C.P.E. “Libertatea” and Article 12(1) of its Statute, the Board of Directors does not influence editorial policy, which remains the sole responsibility of the chief editors and responsible journalists.
The National Council of the Romanian National Minority wishes for “Libertatea” to provide objective reporting, in line with the journalistic code of ethics, in the interest of the Romanian national minority.
